Howard Sez Everyone is against the Iraq War Now

During the Natalie Maines interview, Howard noted that The Dixie Chicks caught a lot of flack because Natalie said something along the lines, at a UK show, that the Chicks were embarrassed W was from TX (even though he was born in CT, vacationed there, and was schooled in CT). Maines was an early adopter in opposing the war in Iraq.

Howard says now everyone is against it but at that time, a lot of people were for it.

So, is it true? Are most Salooners now anti-Iraq war?

Full-disclosure: I was against it during the run-up, against it during the invasion, and against it after the mission was "accomplished." It totally changed my politics because, at that time, I identified with the Libertarian party and there was a LOT of friction within the party as per the war. It was our own mini, geeky, civil war.

When I say the LP had a lot of internal turmoil over the war, many people who had previously identified as Libertarian were for the Iraq war. Neal Boortz, Larry Elder, Dennis Miller, and many more. It was a whole thing. The LP eventually found its center and basically those Libertarians who were pro-war left the party.

It still left a bitter taste in my mouth because the LP refused to consider that corporatism has a large role in the war.

If it was about oil, we didnt take any.

If it was about revenge we hung Sadddam

If it was about WMD's we found none.

If it was about control of the middle east we didnt go far enough and take Iran out too.

    So,

It depends on what you wanted...

The only thing it really did was make IRAN the big guys over there........

    kill lots of Americans......

and trash the bread basket of the middle east...........

But hey we got to HANG Saddaam

Back in 2003 Howard, Robin, and Artie LOVED the Iraq war even after WMDs were not found.
Robin even stated that we need to bomb Syria & Iran next!
They ALL shit on Natalie and the 'Dixie DYKES' over the Bush comments.

Did Howard mention that he was one of the people that was 100% in favor of W's Iraq war. I even remember him going off on Eddie Vedder, Sean Penn & Bruce Springsteen when they were all speaking out against it.

    Typical hypocrite Hamptons Howie.

I'm so behind the curve vs. so many of you guys because I didn't hear the Howard radio show consistently till 2006. But that has been my impression about the stance the Stern staff took regarding the Iraq war.

Man, that group is about as hypocritical as you can get.

if we are the only one that puts up their military to uphold un resolutions, then it's time for us to seriously consider getting out of the un.

every "war" since ww2 has been a defensive war that was fought to "protect" us or our allies. either fight to win, or don't fight

i was for that war to this date, not for the way it was conducted

remember, the mastermind of 9/11 was captured in iraq in 2003

About 400 WMD's were recovered in Iraq in 2006 and there is also a theory that Saddam smuggled his WMD's to Syria which admitted having WMD's last summer.

The idea that we found "400 WMD's" is laughable. Our military was able to buy several containers from locals and then we found a single 'weapons cache'....translation? No chemical weapons apart from those old shells from the Iran Iraq war turned into IED's.

Also, the theory of moving them to Syria has never been proven. In that article, they can't even get down which years they "may" have moved them. Iraqi general George Sada and National Intelligence James Clapper differ on when they moved.

And the KGB man, Yevgeni Primakov is interesting to read about but still....we have yet to ever have actual evidence of such moving vehicles other than head-shots from US/Israel agencies which we guess is illegal weapons.

I am sure there are folks pro-Iraq war.

Bottom line the Iraq war is a huge mess, and Osama got what he wanted:
o establish a theocracy in Iraq.
o get rid of Iraqi Christians (they are essentially being slaughtered or driven out).
o involve the US in a holy war (that can never be won).
o put a huge debt load on the US.

The Iraq war is no different than the financial bail out. The decisions of the government are not in the interests of the American people. People are getting rich, and odds are it ain't you and me. For example, Exxon Mobil has the second largest oil field in Iraq.

All those dead soldiers and civilians... and no one is accountable. It has all turned into "shit happens, and Saddam was a bad guy". Problem is, Saddam was likely better than his replacement. As long as everyone can get a huge jar of pickles at Walmart for 5 bucks and football is on tv, everything is cool.

Good points. Something about the responsibility angle that always haunts me is how Lyndie England got in trouble for the torture stuff but Condi Rice gets to continue her wealthy life unfettered by responsibility.
