And then they do it, and everyone is saying "WHAT! I LOVED RICK I'M NEVER LISTENING AGAIN WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!". Or they have crazy Artie conspiracy theories. Let's get real guys, Nick is not turning down nearly 1 mil because he wants to help Artie and can't stand to see him fall off the wagon. He's a good guy (although I don't like his politicizing a sports/comedy show every 5 minutes) who isn't that good on the radio and probably skirted making racially explosive remarks a la Imus too many times for Ken Kohl's tastes. Artie is Nick's gravy train, not the other way around, and DirecTV wants a return on their 1.5 mil and they aren't getting it from Rick.

As long as Artie isn't nodding off (and maybe if he is) he can make money for DirecTV/Premiere, and normal radio shows re-tool all the time (just look at the revolving door at ESPN radio or pretty much any morning drive show these days). We've gotten used to one of two guys that were exceptions to that, Howard and Imus, who gets to call his own shots (or at least did) as far as personnel go. Artie doesn't control anything, he shows up and gets a check like 99.9% of radio show hosts; Rick is getting his money plus the money from his newfound extra stand up gigs. If Artie quits in protest, and I doubt he would since he and Rick have not gelled at all lately, he gets nothing and no radio/tv company will ever hire him again because he walked off a show of his own volition (as opposed to having drug abuse issues).
Who are you talking about here? No one has changed their tune, anyway how would you know since you only joined the site last month? Me, I started listening to N&A because of Artie, then became a fan of Nick's. I've said it in plenty of listening threads here that I was a fan. I do agree with MPA on a few points, though not when he says that Nick just plain sucks. For instance Nick's constant use of the same joke references (Kevin Eubanks, Boniva, etc.), though you could say that Artie repeats the same jokes also (Scrabble, St. Louis, etc.). Also when it comes to his hosting abilities, he did cut off callers too early and stuck to the "script" too much. But on the other hand, when Artie had his chance to "go crazy" with the show when he was on his own, he didn't. He stuck to the format like a good boy. Yeah, he let Hanzi talk for awhile, but that was about it.

If Nick is gone, I have a feeling that he quit instead of got fired. I bet there was some sort of disagreement between Artie and Nick, and Nick told the bosses that it was either him or Artie. Obviously they stuck with Artie and Nick quit. Unless there was some major offense, I can't see them firing him. He's been telling the same racist jokes the whole time, why would they decide all of a sudden that it was a problem? As far as cost cutting, why would they have gone through all this trouble and money to get the show to where it is and then just pull the plug? As far as we can tell, the show is successful when it comes to listeners.

So if Nick's gone, for me, it'll suck. I've enjoyed their partnership and it was almost always funny. I will continue listening to the show, especially if they get the right person in there with Artie. If it's that Brent fruit or someone like him, I might not listen religiously as I did before. Someone mentioned Norm, that would be perfect.

    "top 30"?!? that's high praise!

I like how even you couldn't bring yourself to say "top 20", because you know you'd get ass-hammered for it.

But even if you really believed that, it doesn't necessarily translate to "great radio host", just as Artie's a terrible stand-up, but he's great on the radio.

what the shows taught me is that nicks comedy act/standup is underrated and trumps arties standup act all day and all night....but artie is radio gold.
since day 1 we've had to endure ricks passive aggressive attitude toward fans and towards artie when artie would start rolling with a bit or in an interview and he'd cut artie off under the guise of "im just doing my job"....it was pathetic.

artie has 10 years experience on the worlds former greatest radio show and instead of nick milking it and encouraging it he acted like a jealous twat.

every time artie mentioned thss nick had to shit on him whereas why wouldnt artie reference the show?.....rick shat on it so many times sheep in here and off here started to actually poop on fatty for bringing it up like it was a bad thing?.whats that saying,"say it enough times even if its wrong or absurd it becomes fact"......rick would constantly shit on artie every fucking time howard was mentioned.

rick shat on fans of the show every time someone gave artie some love and didnt mention him.....it was pretty fucking sad.

if it was the nick dip show would anyone even care?...would it have lasted more then a test show?...hell fuckin no.

so i dont get the rick love?...no artie, no show.

every show where artie wasnt in was brutal....every show artie was on without nick i enjoyed immensely and had way more laughs.

whatever the show ends up....as long as arties on.im there.

and all this conjecture is fucking wack.team this team that?......smh.its fucking gay.

    no artie.no show......thats fact.....if rick aint back i dont give a fuck.

would we even care if it was the nick dipaolo show?

miss the show...miss artie...miss bocchetti....miss dan.......nick will be fine.his standup is superb but on radio dude is radio propofol.

I know they have a guest host but that hasn’t stopped them from uploading shows before. Has the rest of the crew (Falato gelato, Shane, twins and Bocchetti) all been in there these first two shows?

To me, the secrecy is the biggest indication that something big is going down. The fact that they couldn’t sort this over the holidays probably means that it’s a fairly sudden change of plans (both Artie and Bocchetti recently tweeted that they would be back on the 7:th). While I don’t interpret Nick’s silence on Twitter as definite sign of him quitting, I find it odd that Baker wouldn’t write something there just confirming that he’ll be back.

    excellent point

if this was planned it would have been ready to roll on the 7th

one factor i haven't heard mentioned yet is that Nick's a hot-head. maybe that had something to do with something; his temper got the best of him and he said "f this!".

then again, he comes off like a company-man ass-smoocher, with his "i've got a great line about this, but i'll be fired" self-censoring bs, and he seems really grateful to be off the road. i really don't think he'd shoot himself in the foot like that.

i really hope he's gone, but it would almost be too good to be true. and so few things in the entertainment world get better..........................and the Direct TV suits haven't been known for their great decisions in the past regarding the show; the lame guests both "musical" and "regular", hiring Nick in the first place, etc.

i think the Nick-lovers have gotten a lot more vocal now. most weren't bothering with sticking up for him when he was getting bashed here, but they could still be sorry to see him go, and they're voicing that opinion now.

i was surprised by how many people came out of the woodwork in support of him since this went down; it's like the Nick fans were playing possum or something.

    Good for you!

But no, I wasn't thinking of anybody in particular..................just a general trend:

not many pro-Nick postings before this

    much more since

anyway, here's another possible factor as to the timing of this, from the bean-counting department: the Super Bowl is right around the corner, which is probably the most "extra" expense of the N&A show; flying them down, putting them up in nice rooms, feeding them, coordinating everything: getting them here and there, etc.

they may have just halved that expense

No it's not an extra cost for them at all. DirecTV has exclusive cable rights for the NFL Sunday Ticket for a few years. They have a luxury box every year at the Super Bowl as one of the parts of the deal. It was part of the extension deal. So the only extras were the tickets, however they easily make that back with the money they get from whatever local restaurant will pay as sponsors to host their show for a week. Very easy tradeoff.

That NFL Sunday Ticket costs DirecTV around $700 million a year for the exclusive rights. But they make it back before the season even starts. NFL on TV (and internet) is big business. DirecTV also hosts that lame celebrity bowl that Nick and Artie played in which was another reason why they were flown out.

If Nick quit or was fired it certainly was not over money.

Damn IlluminatiJones and KillVampires are stirring it up (in a really good way).

Great thread, especially since I have sternski on ignore and nobody has replied to one of his posts.

Now if N&A could just announce both Nick and Artie are coming back.

If Nick needs something, to make it happen, give it to him DirecTV.

Has anyone thought of the possibility of The Artie Lange Show being something other than a Nick and Artie replacement? Perhaps it's a podcast, perhaps it's a weekly 1-hour show.

Also, I saw earlier about we haven't seen any tweets from Nick, Nick never tweets. Mike Baker The Bad Radio Maker is the one that runs that for him.

I listened to Mike Baker's blog/radio show (recorded yesterday live). No mention of N&A other than Christmas party. Mike talked about getting a real job on the ESPN campus (and not working from home any more). Not sure if that means he is out of the celebrity tweeting biz.

Of course. But it's more fun to break into two camps. Nick Camp. And Artie Camp. And then fight and argue over the internet. What are you doing trying to ruin the fun? Why do you think we registered to this site? To get along?

I hope if Artie has his own show in addition to N&A that his first guest is Joe Buck. And that Joe Buck shows up on heroin to return the favor. "Artie what's your second favorite website...suckingcock.com?" "Didn't you have a load blown on your chest?" And so on.

We've only got a few more days to see what new changes were made to the show. Hopefully N&A are still together. Would be shameful if Artie kept going without the guy who got him the show.
