The gun lobby wants you to believe the left wants to take away your guns. This just isn't true. It's a lie to keep gun owners up in arms and to distract the country from real issues.

Common sense dictates there should be tighter gun control to curb these mass killings and I believe that most people have common sense and want this.

The NRA says the answer is more guns which goes against common sense.

The Left does want to take away guns. Just look at the proposed bills they are putting together. A national database, mandatory registration with the local police dept. The 2nd Amendment is to protect citizens from a tyrannical government and allows citizens to take up arms to defend themselves. A ban on "assault weapons" and large capacity clips is just the beginning.

Dawg, I wish I could find the article but a couple weeks back there was a newspaper in a New York town that listed all of the registered gun owners' addresses in the paper.

A lot of police departments also want a ban on guns. It's about power. If the left and the police take away your right to bear arms they have all the power and can do whatever they want. That's a worst case scenario of course but things are trending that way. They should study the triggers to abhorrent behavior and develop strategies to help and diagnose mentally ill people instead of a knee-jerk reaction to take away the guns. Chicago has one of if not the strictest gun laws in the country but the murder rate is sky high.

Speaking as someone more or less "from the left," the hysteria around the spate of mass shootings we've had has less to do with guns and gun control and more to do with the abysmal state our mental health care is in this country.

Until we take seriously the problem we have with the millions of mentally ill, undiagnosed, unmedicated/untreated, we will continue to see events like these.

it's not guns, folks. it's the people who have access to them.
