Fucking stupid 911. Never listen to those guys. They WILL get you killed. The best thing to do if things have gone tits-up is to call them and put the phone in your pocked. Shit, I called them a few years ago about an idiot who hit my car and jumped out of his car and ran away. I call them, give a perfect description of the car, ask that they send police. In that time, the guy came back with a fucking bat he got from somewhere, I have no fucking idea, and started swinging it at me. The fucking operator told me to hold the line and I said, "I can't, the guy is trying to kill me!" She replies, "sir, you need to talk to me." I dropped the phone and kind of wrestled with the idiot (he was drunk) and got the bat away from him. I was in complete shock and didn't try and hit him with it or anything; just stood there with the bat in a defensive posture and would have hit him if he approached. He didn't. He took off in his car.

I picked my phone up and the operator actually bitched at me for not continuing to talk to her. Fuck 911 operators. They will get you maimed or killed. Apparently, it's their job.

While mine was no where near as dangerous- As a young, naive single girl living in my first apartment alone, I witnessed (through the peephole) a 250 lb Mexican beating up his girlfriend outside my door. I called 911 and requested to remain anonymous (yes, naive). The operator said "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah I got it." Two cops arrived right after he grabbed her by the hair and threw her in the apartment. They knocked gently on their door. No answer. They walk over to my door and knocked. I open the door and they scream "Where's the guy you called about?" I stayed mute and pointed to their door. They knocked again and still no answer, so they left. Everyday after that the Mexican would eye my door as he walked by, even stopping a few times to look in my peephole. I moved about a week later.

And the ex wasn't all that terrifying. The night she "attempted" suicide, she'd left a few hilarious drunken messages on my machine. Hah, funny, this was when I had an answering machine. . . .

I still wasn't gonna go over there. This is a chick who said I "hit" her when she was flipping out in my apartment and pulling on the locked entry door to get out and I grabbed the knob and hit her hand in the process and she yelled, "you hit me!!!!"

Ooofa, she was something. Crazy redhead.

And yes, she had a fire snatch.

She is one messed up chick. This is about the fifth time she's pulled this on Twitter, and while I think she's serious about it (at the time, anyway), she clearly doesn't actually want to die. She invariably ends up in the ER, then returns to Twitter sounding upbeat a couple of days later.

She's a major drug addict and these suicide attempts always follow one of her binges. She talked about doing an 8-ball earlier in the day, and then said she was waiting on some dude to show up (a dealer, I think), and when he didn't, she decided she'd just end her life. BTW, two months ago she shaved her head in the middle of a binge.

She needs to be involuntarily committed.

Women don't choose violent means because they don't want to succeed. Men choose more violent means because they actually want to commit suicide. In general.

It's like Artie with the stab-wounds. He knew his ma was coming over later, didn't plunge THAT deep, etc. Recently he's admitted he didn't really want to kill himself.

While we can debate (until the cows come home) people's reasons for their attempts to commit suicide, I don't know that we can make such generalizations like "they don't want to commit suicide." I don't know that to be true.

On a serious note, we have to wonder, as a society, what needs to be done for people who are severely depressed. Whether they are "attempting" suicide or on the verge of really attempting a suicide, what can be done to help them? Why is it that so many people feel they need to make a weak "attempt" to end their lives to get the help or attention they seek? Is there anything that can be done to help?

Or are some people just drama queens?

This country/culture has no idea how to handle depression. They don't see it as a medical condition; they see it as a moral failing. I've actually had (somewhat) well-intentioned people say "why don't you just get over it?"

It think its more- the earth is over populated as fuck as it is, why must we feel we have to save every mother fuckers life? Isnt the killing of ones self one of the few actual basic rights a person has?
