I say get the flu, be sick for awhile, let your immune system do its job. Unless you are in a risky demo (ie old, sick like Anfkid, etc) don't worry about it. I don't get a flu shot, and I can't remember the last time I did. Nor do I get the flu. Colds, every once in a while, but not often. I see no need to get any flu virus put in me, dead or alive.

Best defenses, outside of being in quarantine: wash hands or sanitize frequently, do not rub your eyes, nor put fingers in your mouth in any way..

High fever, bad chills, very sore throat, swollen glands. Congestion, runny nose, fatigue, achy joints.

It seems like people now days use the terms flu and cold interchangeably, not knowing that there is a huge difference, and it probably inflates the numbers of reported flu cases. I've never taken a flu shot and don't think I've ever had the flu. Maybe when I was a teen...not sure, was a long time ago. I get one or two colds every year that usually don't do much damage.

I had the flu 3 years ago and was useless for a week. I could not keep any food down. I had chills, fever, and dizzy spells. I had absolutely zero energy. It was just awful. I've gotten the flu shot since then.

I've had many colds because my kids go to the germ warfare lab (aka kindergarten). Between my 2 and the other 4 the wife looks after many, many germs come across the front step. No getting away from it. I've ended up with bronchitis a couple times and it sucks. But it eventually goes away and hopefully the old immune system is that much better after.

I work at a hospital, and as of this year, they are mandatory. I got my first one last year, stayed healthy all last winter, and this one so far. Knock on wood...

They put the mandatory rule in place here for the workers at the hospitals and long term care / old age homes this year. Big fuss over it, but it kind of makes sense.
