a) In 1860, at the height of slavery, less than 2% of the population owned even a single slave, according the the US Census

funny you say that. i went to a high school that was mostly black including the teachers. ill never forget in 10th grade American History class the amount of time that was spent on slaver. all the blacks were getting pretty nasty to the handful of whites in the class. i stood up and made the point about how my grandparents were from Ireland and how shitty they were treated. how no one in my family lived in american til long after slavery was over.
they refused to listen or understand.
