Kimmel bashing Leno is like Howard bashing Leno.
Tiresome, very tiresome.
Get over it already!
These people that have butt hurt over some guy not getting a job title is ridiculous.
Click down two channels. It's not like everybody was deprived from Letterman's shitty brand of humor because of Leno.
Kimmel is as big a sellout as Leno. He went from the Man Show to a network late night talk show. It is obvious that Adam Carolla was the real talent behind the Man Show. You see Kimmel hosting the Oscars or whatever? That was an abortion. The guy is simply not funny. He won't be remembered or have any legacy at all. True talents like Patrice O'Neal or Bill Hicks will live on eternally while mediocre hacks will vanish the second that they leave the airwaves.

Kimmel has no class, just like Howard. His show isn't any better than Leno's - he has the same guests and asks them the same soft-ball questions. Howard slammed Leno for having Mel Gibson on his show and kissing his ass but Jimmy (who is supposedly more "edgy") did exactly the same thing. I hope his show tanks big time and he joins his buddy Howard on the list of ratings losers.
Kimmel will always be known as the guy behind Leno and Letterman in the ratings. Big fucking deal about his new time slot, nobodys watching any of this shit anyways. Dummies.
Yahoo had a poll on their home page earlier this week asking people whether they like Leno or Letterman better. Last time I checked, Leno was ahead 55% to 45%. Today they're asking whether people are fans of Leno or Kimmel and Leno is winning by 10% (most people voted for NEITHER).
Jimmy desperately trying to please daddy.
People should be forced to read The War for Late Night before opening their mouths.
It seems odd for Kimmel to critique Leno's stand up, given Leno is pretty much one of the top 10 stand ups of all time, and Kimmel never was.
As for Letterman, he has played the martyr well but he also negotiated himself out of the job. As Leno has shown, he does not put money above everything. That just drives wiggy nuts.
I love Leno only because Howwig hates Leno. Leno is the anti Howard. He collects cars and drive them, he is generous with his staff and he is a hard worker.
Howard is a Vomit.
"Howard hasn't been a good show host in 20 years," he cracks. Later, he explains that Howard used to be funny but has lost his way.
"As a radio guy, you can't not have disdain for what he's done,: Kimmel says. "He totally sold out. He was a master chef who opened a Burger King."
Howard is a Vomit.
Yes, that would be a much more accurate quote.
I don't blame Kimmel for bad-mouthing Leno for two reasons:
he's always been a huge Letterman fan, and Leno basically publicly sodomized Letterman
going from "3 calls a week" to "absolute silence' does seem quite asshole-ish to me
But Leno seems like a genuinely nice and generous person............................unless you're standing between him and what he wants. Then, you're rattlesnake-fucked.
Leno played the late night game better than anybody, but I think he's the least funny out of him, Letterman, and Kimmel. Letterman's a tortured suit, but Leno gleefully hops into the suit. Kimmel's like the funny kid at the rich family's kid's table.
I do love Leno's garage, his generosity, the way he'll give a leg up to various stand-ups, the way he fucked Howard out of Stuttering John, and the way Carolla can catch a ride back to LA with Leno on Jay's private jet. Imagine Howard in that scenario and tell me Howard wouldn't ask for gas money and for Adam to sign a notarized statement saying that Adam "owed him".
You can actually measure the humanity-distance between Leno and Howard by their dealings with Carolla: one fixed Adam's classic car and gave him a ride home on his private jet, one tried to Jew him down to the point of Adam not taking a job with him.

Who cares if Leno "sold out" by appealing to middle America?
The thing is there's an audience for Leno's humor, and that audience is bigger than the audience for Letterman's humor and Kimmel's humor.
Leno found a niche, and exploited it. That's smart, not stupid.
Howard Stern did the same thing with his niche.
Leno fuckin campaigned for the Tonight Show job while Letterman held his nuts.
Again, that's smart not stupid.
The early bird catches the worm, not the other way around.
You don't become successful by sitting on your hands.
And you're not successful unless people passionately hate you.
Leno didn't want ownership of the Tonight Show, was a cheaper date and not anywhere as difficult as a person to deal with as Letterman.
The Jackie comparison is dead on accurate. Even Warren Littlefield said so on THSS last year promoting his book that should have been written 10 years earlier.

WARREN LITTLEFIELD WANTS OPTIONS
Warren Littlefield stopped by to promote his Must-See memoir, ‘Top of the Rock,’ and Howard immediately asked why he hadn’t hired Leno over Letterman. Littlefield said Leno’s candidacy was really the result of Letterman’s negotiation tactics: “My idea was, ‘Hey, if it doesn’t work, what are [we] going to do?’” Michael Ovitz, Letterman’s agent, was asking for a lot: “They handled it like they had Johnny Carson. They made it so punitive and so difficult. … So my job was, ‘Do I have choices?’”
Has anybody on this thread called Leno "stupid"?
And I disagree with your "you're not successful unless people passionately hate you" line: show me the unwashed masses who hated Spielberg in the 70s or 80s, DeNiro in the 80s or 90s, or Nicholson or Carson............ever.
Does/did anybody really hate the first three Indiana Jones movies, "Jaws", the first two Godfathers, anything Jack Nicholson has done, or "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson"?
I don't think so. yeah, maybe a smattering of people here and there do for some weird reason(s), but en masse? No.
There's a success that transcends criticism, but that's really neither here nor there.
This is just lazy thinking, JHiG.....................you're better than this.
If you want to be in Camp Leno that's fine, but you don't have to twist things to make him into hero he's not.

I didn't say people said Leno was stupid.
It's what he DID and DIDN'T DO that Howard and other Leno haters consider stupid.
They consider it wrong that he "stabbed" his "pal" Letterman in the back. But he did what he had to do to get his ultimate goal, The Tonight Show.
They consider idiotic that Leno didn't storm out of NBC when he was told that Conan would replace him. But leaving NBC would've meant starting over into the great unknown, in his mid-50s with brand-new people. Instead, he stayed put. And what is he doing now? He's hosting The Tonight Show.
And yes, those '70s directors were resented. Coppolla, Spielberg, Lucas. The old guard didn't like these "hippies."
People on the Godfather set would talk shit behind Coppolla's back, or when he was in the bathrroom stall.
Star Wars crew members thought Lucas was incompetent.
When you look back, of course it doesn't seem like these folks could be hated.
But look at the young people doing innovate stuff nowadays. They aren't taken seriously at all.
As for Johnny Carson, have you not seen his American Masters documentary, that guy was an insecure nasty piece of work who was hated because he was so powerful. Ask Joan Rivers.
I'm not a Leno fan. I'm a Kimmel fan.
I've been following Kimmel's career for 18 years, since I was in high school.
One of my favorite clips of The Man Show is of Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla pranking my mom.
I don't think Jay Leno's funny. I don't watch The Tonight Show.
But I don't think he's any different from Letterman, Conan, Kimmel and the rest when it comes to cutthroat ambition.
The others, though, are good at hiding it. Plus, they have PR reps or other spokespeople who are great at leaking stuff to the press in their favor. Leno is shit at that.
