If it were about safety they'd all be carrying $10/mo tracphones from Walmart. I see some families where they have 3-4 kids and every one of them has a $200 phone along with the parents' and the family plan must cost $250/mo or more, but they can't pay their bill to me till the next payday. And we wonder why people are out on their asses in the street a month after they lose their jobs.

My brother in law just bought his wife an $800 phone for Christmas. She didn't even want it, she likes her iPhone. Meanwhile, no IRA, no 401k, no savings, no home, and has filed bankruptcy twice already. They hit us up for a loan a couple years back. The 8 y/o was going to take the old phone, btw.

Yup. I own a tracfone. Works great. A $20 card every three months gives you 60 minutes of talktime and basic texting. Can call anywhere in the USA or international for cents per minute. Plus it always gives me double the minutes, (which was supposed to be a one-time thing when I activated it online, but has done it with every top-up since. Glitch? Bonus for me!) so I get 120 minutes each time. Been using it for a couple of years now and since I only use the phone when I need to, I have 520 minutes accumulated at the moment. People love to have shit they don't need......
