PAUL’S massive size makes it impossible for him to look after himself.
Two female carers visit three times every day to clean him — a task that takes four hours.
He helps as best he can by soaping his upper body with a giant sponge before they wipe it off.
They then apply cream to every inch of him to prevent chafing.
His carers used to look after him for 12 hours a day, from 8am to 8pm, and cook three low fat meals.But that service was axed by Ipswich NHS last year due to financial cutbacks. Paul regards his over-eating as an addiction and admits he can no longer taste food after eating so much of it.
He has also lost the sensation of hunger because his stomach became so enormously stretched.
He has not walked properly since 2000 and has to wear incontinence pads — adult versions of nappies — because rolls of fat prevent him from carrying out normal bodily functions. Paul likes to watch EastEnders and documentaries about obesity on TV. He also spends time making craft greetings cards, necklaces and bracelets.
