Carrying firearms openly in public

In my state and many others it is not illegal to openly carry a firearm in public. I know what the legal parameters are (obviously) but how do y'all feel and what would you expect from the police if you saw a person walking down a busy city street at lunchtime with a scoped rifle slung over his/her shoulder. Not acting crazy, pointing it around, threatening or doing anything else that would make you notice them.

Yeah it would depend on the place and the situation, but here in Texas, it's concealed carry. I've never grasped the benefits of concealed vs open......

I will throw this out there: I grew up in a semi-rural area when guns were common, but I gotta admit, the first time I went to a huge gun show in "the big city", it was kinda creepy being around so many gun totin' redneck suburbanites all at once......

Well, I don't see the point of openly carrying a rifle and scope if you're not going hunting. But in general, if it's legal, don't bother or confront the person since they're just going about their business (although it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on them until they're out of view).

I have no problem with gun ownership and look forward to having some of my own when I move out of NYC.

When I first moved to NJ people would walk down the street in Jamesburg like that: shotguns broken over their arm, and bows, while dressed in hunting cammo. scared the crap out of me. It still makes me uneasy when i see the paramilitary police in their surge gear. I dont like the idea of anyone walking the streets with their fingers on the trigger waiting for the reason or opportunity to fire a gun. at least give me the warning of drawing it out.

It's not uncommon to see open carry here, most carry concealed though.

I notice a lot more open carry in AZ, seems like there is always one or two people open carrying if I stop at a grocery store.
