My "new" 1.5 year old 86 pound Akita mix is pretty much recovered from his "nut cut" so now it's time to get him with the program. I've always had small sissy dogs so as long as they didn't use the house as a litter box and came when I called them I didn't spend much time on obedience training. You can only cause so much trouble at 9 pounds.
Anyway Brody is a sweet/gentle boy. He will sit/stay but is easily distracted and gets a little crazy. On a leash he is not too bad but has pulling issues if he gets interested in something. He also, apparently, wants to shred my barn cats when he lays eyes on them.....that we never be able to fix which is fine. His only other issue is that he's had "submissive peeing" incidents and the way he acts I think that pre rescue whoever had him was heavy handed. I think as Brody gets more comfortable the submissive peeing will stop so I'm not too worried about that.
I know different dogs respond to different training, as do owners, but it can't hurt to hear what methods/equipment worked for y'all.

especially for a rescue since they have experienced some not so great situations and stress exacerbates submissive peeing.
