that's just a few off the top of my head
Nobody in the current cast of SNL would be in my top 100, and I've been watching since the first season.
Phil Hartman was, and still is #1. He played the best straight man ever. When he was killed, he was responsible for making 2 shows jump the shark, SNL & The Simpsons.

"I pull out. I never use condoms, I'm a married man." Howard Stern 1996
I started watching during the first season as well. I skipped a bunch during the 80s but have tuned in off and on from the 90s till today. Here's my list (in order):
1) Dan Aykroyd
2) Bill Murray
3) John Belushi
4) Eddie Murphy
5) Will Farrell
6) Mike Meyers
7) Phil Hartman
8) Dana Carvey
9) Tina Fey (makes the list due to her writing)
10) Jon Lovitz
For anybody who has been around long enough to remember the first few seasons, there is just no denying how important Danny Aykroyd was to the show--both as a writer and performer. His humor set the tone for everything that has come after. Bill Murray was a genius--no brainer. Belushi and Eddie Murphy might switch places; Murphy was definitely a better comedian and performer, but Belushi really personified the attitude of the era, and what SNL used to stand for. The rest are just the best writers/performers...you could always count on them to bring 100% to their skits. The top-4 are unassailable IMHO.
Adam Sandler can suck a bag of dicks. I don't give a shit how popular he was or how much money he's made. SNL was, for me at least, about transgressive humor; Sandler is about as mainstream as they come.

Shut your fucking mouth, cocksucker!
I'm not a fan of the current cast, but I gained a lot of respect for Bill Hader when I learned he writes for South Park.
Armisen's OK I guess. I'm sure I liked something he's done, but can't remember what.
Oh and that fat guy who does the drunk uncle bit needs to be pushed down a flight of stairs.

Hell, the entire 70s cast, the entire All Star Cast (Billy Crystal, Martin Short, etc.), and the entire mid to late 90s cast (Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Dan Hartman, etc.) all are ahead of Armisen. And that is before you start picking individuals from other casts like Murphy and Ferrell.
