Cool Who Balloned the Deficit.....Bush or Obama? Just the Facts...And Nothing But the Fact

I wanted to bring up this topic because we all know about Bush's unfunded wars. It's become a talking point to say Bush created the deficit problem we're in.

Okay...let's look at the facts. On each fact, I will post a link. The links are to The Huffington Post....CBS News...Wikipedia....and the Federal Government. You can read the information for yourself.

    Spending:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_...federal_budget.

    1. Bush's last year in office total Federal Spending was 3.1 trillion dollars

    2. Obama's latest total Federal Spending was 3.8 trillion dollars. That is a 22.6% increase or about $700,000,000,000 dollars.

    Deficits:

    1. Bush's last Deficit was $482 billion in the 2009 budget year that was inherited by Barack Obama."

    Link http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0..._n_115335.html

    2. Obama's 2012 Federal Budget Deficit was $1.089 trillion. That's a 126% increase over Bush's last deficit.

    http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/...cit_chart.html

"The federal budget deficit has topped $1 trillion for a fourth straight year in 2012."

    Link : http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505123_162-57531637/federal-deficit-in-2012-budget-year-tops-$1t/

Folks....we don't have a revenue problem....we have a spending problem. There is no question about that. The President wants to raise taxes. Okay. Eliminating the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% raises $82 billion a year. That doesn't begin to cover the $700 billion increase in spending that Obama is directly responsible for....and that is after ending a war in Iraq and coming out of a recession. How can those spending increases be justified? Why doesn't the President ever talk and any meaningful spending cuts or entitlement reform since those are the problems....not a lack of revenue?

It's clear Bush added greatly to the deficit problem. It is also clear Obama has greatly increased the problem, and has done far more damage than Bush ever did. The facts speak for themselves. Those of you that don't like facts.....sorry.

it is just a simple math problem but our fearless leaders want to keep it a political problem & all the dummy party idiots fighting over shit that doesnt matter. both parties want to keep the focus on ending the bush tax cuts that dont amount to a hill of beans anyway, but ultimately both sides agree on in principal. the tough decisions are the spending cuts & much more important for our countries solvency like you pointed out. no one wants to touch & we have a devisive prez that it seems is incapable of arising above the fray & knocking boners/pelosi/nevada schmuk's head together & put this nation first... gubment as usual no matter what the schmuks campaiged on.

at this point it doesn't really matter who's responsible for a bigger share of the debt. the question is, does the debt really matter? i have a feeling the only time both dems and reps would agree that the debt is a problem is if there was a third party president in office.

Republicans don't care about the debt. They only care about keeping tax cuts for the rich.

No, No, No....they CARE about the debt when a Democrat is in office.....yet forget about it during a Republicans years in the White House

They never, ever forget about giving the rich even bigger tax breaks no matter who is in the White House.

You don't realize how many different ways that it is used today?

Most if not all Republicans are so stupid that they use "Socialism" without even the slightest clue what it actually means.

you use class warfare rhetoric in some of your posts. i guess you're just too biased to recognize how you've fallen for it.

How did I fall for it?

Be specific......or is it too much to ask you to explain your post?

Oh no I'm sorry, what he means is that the super rich in this country con stupid poor republicans to support cuts to social services to support an ever expanding military (and corporate profits) and tax cuts on things like capital gains.

of course you don't care cause it is still GW's fault.

The difference between the projected and actual debt in 2011 can be largely attributed to:

    • $3.5 trillion – Economic changes (including lower than expected tax revenues and higher safety net spending due to recession)
    • $1.6 trillion – Bush Tax Cuts (EGTRRA and JGTRRA), primarily tax cuts but also some smaller spending increases
    • $1.5 trillion - Increased defense and non-defense discretionary spending
    • $1.4 trillion – Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq
    • $1.4 trillion - Incremental interest due to higher debt balances
    • $0.9 trillion - Obama stimulus and tax cuts (ARRA and Tax Act of 2010)[72]

It's funny that the thread starter uses things like 'Sorry but those are the facts' yet he copies Wikipedia (which has numerous glaring errors) and has to keep stating things that basically mean "Don't question me about this because I am right...but uh...no questions...ok? I AM RIGHT!"

It generally is how the right-wing argue.....they throw out a link or two....state how right they are....and tell everyone not to speak.

Another reason the country laughed at them and voted in Obama again
