    Subway Gods Are Still Angry

Woman stumbles, falls on NYC subway tracks, dies

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police say a young woman stumbling around on a Manhattan subway platform not far from Times Square fell onto the tracks and was killed by a train.

The accident happened at around 5 a.m. on New Year's Day at the No. 2 line station on 34th Street andSeventh Avenue. That's one stop from where revelers gather in Times Square to see the ball drop.
Police say the victim was in her 20s. Her name wasn't immediately released.
Subway deaths are common in the city. Last year, according to a report in the Daily News, there was about a fatality a week.
But track deaths have been getting extra scrutiny in recent weeks after two men were shoved to their deaths in December.

She's lucky she only died quickly instead of on after 12 hours of a gangbang on a tenement roof in Harlem.

Holy shit. i never knew there were that many.

52 deaths/year and there hasn't been anything done to reduce that number?

Those would be effective as hell. Unfortunately, I think of my city's transit system, Atlanta's MARTA, and can only think of how it would constantly be malfunctioning.

But it would be nice. There are people who stand right next to the oncoming train on the platform when the train zooms on in. I'm not particularly nervous about the stuff but don't get right up on it, for sure.

I know I'm not going to be doing that anymore. I'm not afraid of accidentally falling but you never know when some wacko might push you just for kicks. I'll be standing back until the train pulls up.

According to some here that makes you NYC naive and a bumpkin. Because apparently there aren't any mass transit systems outside of NYC.

i thought the same thing when i read that number, but then figured a great portion (if not all some years) are most likely suicides. they probably figure a fence isn't going to stop that. if these murders become a trend though, i think they'll be forced to do something. ideal would be a full wall with the bottom half sliding up only when the train arrives. at no point would there be access to the tracks and there wouldn't need to be worry about making a precise stop to line up with doors. of course, the city would have to find a billion dollars somewhere.
