In Chicago, we only 2 state facilities left for "non-funded" patients. Sadly, the wait to get in those places is always over 48 hours, can you imagine waiting in a little 8' x 8' room for that long!? That would make some "normal" people insane.
Yeah, they are transferred to other hospitals as soon as a bed becomes available.. It's a long horrible process. Sometimes, they are in the er so long they are just referred to outpatient... something has to change.

The social services in New York State are NOT underfunded (think Jeff the Drunk) they just become increasingly ineffective as the bureaucracy grows. It happens everywhere socialism is tried. It's almost as if politicians become empowered as the social fabric collapses <wink> <wink>.
