America’s Got Talent is set to undergo a huge revamp – and Howard Stern's future on the reality TV hit is in doubt, MailOnline can reveal.
Simon Cowell and NBC chiefs are looking at ways to refresh the series for season 8 after ratings dipped in September’s finale.

Feisty Sharon Osbourne has already quit and now Howard Stern has dropped a heavy hint that he may not return – which means bosses may have to find two new judges to join show favourite Howie Mandel.

The show - which is the world’s biggest selling TV format - moved to New York from Los Angeles especially to accommodate radio star Stern, 58, who replaced Piers Morgan this year.

A show source said: ‘AGT is massively successful, but every TV show needs a refresh to make it the best it can be.

‘At this time, there are questions over whether Howard wants to return.
'Neither of the Howards have signed up again yet, but it’s Stern who is being vocal about the fact he may not come back.

‘It will certainly depend on who the new third judge is. Simon wants every detail to be perfect.

‘He was buoyed by the success of the last Britain’s Got Talent, where there were two new judges. Who knows – there may even be a fourth judge brought on to AGT like the UK.’

Speaking on his radio show last week, Stern himself said that it's always been his ‘philosophy’ to be grateful for his radio success and added that he realized at some point in his career that he didn't need to be ‘all over the television’.

The source also told MailOnline that rumours that Cowell will put his new paramour Carmen Electra in Sharon's seat are wide of the mark.

During September’s season finale, America's Got Talent had 11.86 million viewers.

However, last year's AGT climax drew nearly 15.5 million viewers.
Cowell, 52, and NBC have some time on their hands as auditions for AGT start in Los Angeles next month – however, judges auditions don’t start until February.
