Im a big time advocate.
my son was in the NICU for a week when he was born (he was a month early, had to be on a ventilator because his lungs weren't fully developed). I had to pump and supplement with formula because he wasn't getting enough. I pumped for two months because he wouldn't latch and kept pumping months after that to up my supply.
now everything is fine and he breastfeeds like a pro and I put my pump away months ago.

lots of moms give up early but I was determined to stick it out because I feel it is so important.

I believe that the medical community is to blame for this, many pediatricians advocate the use of formula or the breast, but not both, so naturally when a baby is not getting the proper sustenance from the breast the moms give up and go for the formula, not realizing that they could still supplement with the breast, and the quite possibly they could rely solely on moms own as opposed to formula. Good on you for not giving up, those antibodies are more important than you think for a newborn.
