PS2 is the highest selling DVD player of all time. Helped make the DVD what it is today. Games like Grand Theft Auto III and Final Fantasy X could have tons of spoken dialog and high quality music because of the DVD capacity. Great console. I still play tons of PS2 games every month.

God of War 1&2, Metal Gear Solid 2&3, Twisted Metal Black, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, Final Fantasy (X, X2, and 12), Ratchet and Clank games, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, X-Men Legends, GTA series. Too many great games.

Depends on which rumors you believe but most likely Christmas 2014. Both the new PS and the new Xbox are probably going to be unveiled at E3 this summer, so I'm assuming that's when we'll know firm release dates.

How did they shit the bed with the PS3? I don't know hardly anyone that doesn't have a PS3, hell, most of the people I know not only use it for their gaming but as their Blu Ray player, I mean, they've sold a shit-ton of those things..

The PS3 has definitely caught up in recent years and is technically sound, but hardly anyone was buying them the first couple years for a number of reasons:
1. Almost no games available at launch: the first few months it was out Madden, Tiger Woods, and COD 3 were literally the only big titles.
2. No one was buying Blu-Rays 6 years ago because most people were waiting to see who would win the BR vs. HDDVD war.
3. It came out a year later than the 360 which had already had time to build a roster of games, many exclusive to the system.
4. It was ridiculously expensive
5. It just wasn't marketed all that well in the US.

The only thing that saved it, I think, is BR winning the format war and the fact that standalone BR players are still expensive. If it were just a gaming console I doubt it would have sold have as much.

DVD is probably the main reason why the PS2 beat the Dreamcast, which had better graphics, cooler controllers and was easier for developers.
