Our justice system is so fucked up

Almost every day when I read the paper I'm shocked about what criminals and mental cases get away with.

Today's story:

Guy stabs ex girlfriend fourteen times with a kitchen knife right in front of their two kids. He leaves the woman for dead and takes off. Miraculously the woman survived it because the kids called 911 right away and he didn't hit any vital arteries or organs.

Guy got 6 years for that.

Attempted murder in a savage way with a knife (14 stabs is definitely psychopath territory), one huge bloody mess, right in front of two kids. How much would you get for this in the US, I wonder?

6-8 years sounds about right, but here, depending on the jurisdiction, he may be paroled and get out earlier .. if he behaves well in the clink.

With "our" I meant the Dutch justice system. People ain't getting arrested over pot here.

Real, hard-core crimes like these don't nearly get punished hard enough over here. It's a bunch of pussy-ass shit.

depends on the state. if he's a first-time offender, likely gets less of a sentence; if multi-offender, then enhanced sentence. Since a weapon is involved, it's an aggravated offense, just depends on the state, though.

They SHOULD get 20 years or so, but there simply isn't room to house all the violent criminals for that long, and the recidivism rate is beyond insanity.

Only from the taxpayers..... That's why it's critical to misinform the public and sensationalize any and all "Drug Crimes", to keep the money flowing in. As an added benefit, it tends to also make people forget about Constitutional rights, illegal search and seizure, etc. It's a "Win-Win" situation for the drug cartels and the "law enforcement" cartels.....

You'd be shocked at how excited and enthused everyone gets when "real" police work pops up.....bank robberies, shootings, stabbings, car jackings, etc. Not much is more fun than trying to track/find someone immediately after a fresh violent crime. When luck is on your side and you catch 'em it's truly priceless. Also, not much.....if any "pothead" rousting going on here. Corner dealers (crack, heroin, pcp, weed), PCP wackos, crackheads, etc. are more the norm in my area.

I'm not in total disagreement with your statement however......just inserting my personal observations that nobody asked for.

You know many houses get broken into everyday so fiends can feed their habit. That is a problem. Does this carry over to weed? Not that I've seen but there are plenty of violent crimes that stem from "people" that need cash flow or they go without. There is devastation to good, hard working people because of druggie assholes that can't function in society.
