    My favorite country song

is 'Ode to Billy Joe', Amazing the subject matter was allowed in 1967, if you think about it. Girl was from Chickasaw County Mississippi. I've been through the Delta of Mississippi and the song is really evocative and accurate. I dunno how to embed YouTubes, but google Bobby Gentry and Ode to Billy Joe...the lyrics are beautiful.

It's No 419 of Rolling Stones greatest 500 songs of all time. I'm not a huge country music fan, but it's a great song.

The whole song hints at a relationship between the two. I'd always assumed it was an aborted child-back in those days, you didn't have kids out of wedlock. I read up on the song, and Gentry said most people thought it was that or a wedding ring. Apparently, the person who really did jump off the bridge's reasons were unknown to her.
