Thanks. I am changing the strings today. Ima go with 11's instead of 9's and see if it changes my tone. Live, I play this thru a 35 w 15" Peavey Delta blues and I turn all the knobs except pre and reverb up to 10. I get a great crunch on the clean and if I pull back the V on the strat a little it is as clean as a can be. The lead channel soars and I can get a great natural feed back by stepping toward and facing the amp. I now play this thru a practice amp. I line 6 and I need a heavier string so it doesnt sound too thin. Lets hope I don't need to adjust the intonation too much.

When I changed from 9's to 10's I had to do a setup. It's easy on a Strat if you don't have to mess with the nut.
What kind of strings do you use? I like the Super Bullets.
Ernie ball super slinky. I will prolly bring the Strat to G Center and talk with a guy there I know there. I may even take the strings off here and restring at the store so if I need a set up I can get advice. I have a fixed trem. It is post CBS so my nut is plastic I presume. I never felt a need to replace it.
Yeah, your truss rod will need tweaking, maybe the string height, too. I forgot what the numbers are, but the combined pull/pressure of all six strings on a guitar tuned to pitch is ridiculously high, and you're dealing with micro-fractions of an inch...
I switched to 11's years ago, and I always put the exact same brand and size ( D'Addario exl-115 ) on all my guitars so I don't have to fuck with setting them up but once.

Anybody here play the mandolin? Messed around with a couple at my local shop last night and thinking of buying one. They're a blast to play.

you still loving that takamine? it's one hell of a nice guitar. great collection you got there.
i messed around with a mandoline a few years ago at a buddy's house and it was fun, but not my thing. i went to my local guitar shop on thursday and fucked around on a resonator guitar in open e tuning. it was so much fun. i might pick up a cheapie (like an oscar schmidt for $350) just for shits.
you just don't turn it off.
LOVE the Takamine. I actually find myself playing a lot more now because it's such a joy to play. Good way to keep my 3 month old entertained when I run outta other ideas.
Yeah, it's definitely not for everybody, and not something I'd get into as seriously as the guitar. But they are a lot of fun. Plus, I want to learn to play the 'arrested development' theme song on it.![]()
