Yes I would. I have the right to own an assault rifle, which is already a dumbed down version of a machine gun (less ammo, not fully auto, etc). Banning them using the ct shooting is absurd since an assault weapons ban would do absolutely nothing to lower the gun violence numbers of this country. By far, the number of gun crimes committed are through hand guns, specifically illegal handguns. Banning assault weapons is just something to do because its easy and would I've the appearance of doing something. Even though the number of 'other guns" incidents in this country is less than the number of knife-related incidents and this jner includes shotguns and hunting rifles, which means the assault rifles are even less of an issue.

You can buy machine guns, fully automatic weapons, with a $250.00 tax stamp and background check. Doubt that will change. Semi automatic is what is common and available and does not need a tax stamp.

Last time they did the Assault Weapons Ban it was a joke. You could still buy all that shit, it was just more expensive. Manufacturers just changed the configuration of the guns so they complied with the law, same weapons, just missing a pistol grip, or a collapsible stock etc.

Honestly I think Pandora got out of the box on this issue a long time ago. Unless you are ready for the cops to make door to door warrantless searches for guns and magazines?

Unless, like you say, we want to submit to door-to-door checks by the authorities, searching everywhere in our homes, discovering who-knows-what in the process (how many drug arrests would there be in such a situation? If it's ATF, I know guys who would have trouble explaining their distillery equipment), will we get rid of the guns or even just high capacity magazines, etc.

Unless we want to REALLY trample on privacy rights, what is REALLY going to change? And even then, there are lots of folks who have encased, or are at least prepared to encase, any potentially illegal firearms in plastic and then PVC and bury them somewhere.

The gun-control angle is window-dressing but, as Americans have shown before, they will be convinced that all is well because "something just had to be done."

Whether it is effective or not or encroaches on civil-liberties or not.

I don't think any private citizen should be legally able to own a machine gun.

But I do support people owning submachine guns and assault rifles.

I do think we need to invest a lot more effort into mental illness and get the people that might use assault rifles and submachine guns for murderous use some help before they snap.

And I think we need to quit blaming media and videogames for making kids snap - that is just bullshit.
