Alimony in CT is based on a formula just like child support. Looks like the husband agreed to have all of his support categorized as alimony for the tax benefit, since the article you posted doesn't reflect a child support payment

It also doesn't seem to reflect any division on his GE pension (which I an certain is worth a shit load) So he likely opted for more income distribution in the short term.

It was also AN AGREEMENT, meaning he voluntarily chose to pay what he did

The kid was 17 at the time of their divorce in 2009.

Why would he still be paying child support in 2012 when he was a 20 year-old, especially when she already had the house and his education paid for?

because child support is due until the child is emancipated. which means either he's not a student, married, in college or in the militray--or 23. He still has to eat, be clothed. She maintained the roof over his head. Utilities, insurance, water/sewer etc.

Ok, but why does she get so much alimony and for so long? The article mentions alimony indefinitely until his death.

I'm being totally sincere, I don't understand this, though it is much more extreme (I hope!!!!) than average. The original concept of Alimony is understandable, but this kinda money/percentage is way beyond insane..... And I didn't read the whole article, but based on LP's assertion, does this mean that even if she had remarried, she would still be getting that much money from the ex-husband???? The only bright spot I see here is that there are SOME positives about being a hopeless lonesome loser.

Alimony stops when a person remarries (in Mass if they live with someone for more than 6 mos). The article doesn't show the whole agreement, but generally alimony is paid because the spouse has no means of earning an income
