The great Bill Hicks said it best. He said that the late night talk show audience has almost no crossover with with the adult standup comedy circuit. That the kind of people who listen to his brand of humor, who listen to Kinison or Carlin, are not the kind of people who tune into late night network shows. He said not once after doing a network show did someone come up to him after a show and say "I saw you on Letterman". Kinison as well said that basically on the east coast it was only worth it to plug his shows on Howard as those fans were the only ones who really would show up in large numbers.

I doubt most older Stern fans, or guys who listen to like O&A or N&A now, and are into standups like Stanhope, Quinn, Jeselnik, Mooney, Rock, and so on, are wasting time watching Kimmel, Leno, Fallon, and the rest of the white hack establishment send comedy back another decade. After listening to tapes of Carlin and Hicks, catching O&A every morning, and listening to golden era Stern, I can't stomach more than a few seconds of Kimmel, Letterman, Conan, and so on.
