It bothered me. This isn't the first or 5th school shooting...just the first time OUR kids got a letter home about it.

I tried to figure out why it bothered me so much...likely 'cause I would not have chosen to let them know. Perhaps because it offended me that they think we needed other sources to help them, 'cause we're too stupid as parents to do it on our own? However, as was pointed out to me, it's in their faces via social media whether I like it or not, so best to address it.

I simply told them there was lots of bad people in the world. We can't live our lives in fear though, we still keep going through life. WTF else do you say to children about something so unpredictable, and horrific?

The news media was so irresponsible in reporting this. They just ran with any tidbit they heard without checking sources or verifying. They even had the guy's name wrong, for christ's sake. First his mom was a teacher, then she was a sub, then she wasn't a teacher at all. It sickens me that they want to be first so badly that they throw out journalistic integrity.

And, yes, I think they need to de-emphasize the killer somehow. I truly believe that this feeds into some sick people's minds to go down in a blaze of glory.
