I believe most K9s in my city are "one size fits all" perhaps with a specialty.

Some bad news for me that should come as no surprise. Apparently someone "connected" is picked out for the vacancy already so the job posting is just a formality. I'll go through the interview and agility test but have lost any realistic hope. Oh well, just business as usual.

    Pros.....
More $$$$ without working moonlighting gigs and the $$$$ goes towards my pension.
My partner is a dog......not some alcoholic that always smells like cheap whores. I've had pretty good luck with partners but even the good ones can get you in trouble over something stupid.
    Something new.
A more positive public interaction experience.
Exercise as part of and during work.

    Cons.....
The flexible shifts and "call-ups". I've been on dayshift for 12 years (mostly).
Training is 4 months in Texas. Four freaking months is a long time for a hermit like me. Plus my wife (couldn't be more understanding and perhaps would love to have me gone) would be stuck with all of the farm work/horse maintenance. She can and would do it but it's lots for one person to handle.
Those 4 months are overtime/moonlighting free so money will be tight. Plus expenses for staying away from home (meals and whatnot).

    Hmmmmmm........

It seems you'd rather do the K-9 deal, at least from reading this post. If everything were completely equal-money, OT, etc, which one would you take? That answer would be the answer I would go with.

i'm sorry to hear that but do your best and make an impression. don't go in like you know the fix is in. being positive is a big plus.

i hired quite a few people over the years and every once in awhile, no matter that we picked the best to hire, the big guy would say nope, hire this guy who didn't even make it past the first cut. you know, the dumb fuck with connections.

It happens all of the time and there is only so much they can do. Jobs for units go 50/50 seniority/supervisor's pick. If it's time for a "seniority" pick then it's a no- brainier (some shenanigans do still go on). If it's a "pick" then qualifications, experience and talents mean nothing. "The fix being in" is not always the case but happens often enough to quash most all hope.

No biggie, I should know better at this point.

I'll put the effort in unless they want me to jump through hoops on one of my days off.......they can go fuck themselves. There's always next time.

I'm not getting into a union bashing discussion. I have more problems with my union because of them looking out for people maybe a bit too much whether they deserve the protection or not. The only reason every job doesn't go to cronies is because of the union. It would be nice if everything was fair but like in every job some people take care of their buddies at the expense of picking the most qualified candidate. At least at some point my seniority might get me a job I should have gotten on merit in the past. It is what it is.

BTW.....I don't think I'm necessarily the most qualified candidate or that I had a lock on it until I found out about there possibly being a "fix". I just thought I had a good shot based on previous postings for this gig and the current environment.

Look for a tomtom or 2manboobs thread if you want someone to support your agenda.

Part of the procedure when you search is to yell out warnings that you're sending the dog in and that if he finds you he will bite you. Anyone stupid enough to ignore the warning is in for a world of pain. Better to be tased.
