Gun control of SOME KIND; I favor owning firearms, but stricter checks and no assault weapons. Even if each school district just raised enough tax money to pay one retired cop to hang out all day with a gun, that would basically solve it in the context of something like this.

I have mixed feelings about this; I live in a rural area with a lot of meth heads who do home invasion, and 99% of the time if you whip out a hunting rifle they hit the deck or jump into their car and take off. Having said that, their intent was never to kill, so I see your point. I do think strict checks would help though; that Loughner kid had been flagged by his university as unstable, but because of all these bullshit confidentiality laws relating to mental health he legally was able to purchase guns.

I'm sure guns were not allowed at the school. Guess the shooter didn't respect the law. If one of the teachers had been trained & armed, this may have turned out differently. What are the laws in Connecticut regarding concealed carry or guns on campus?

What causes more deaths, school shootings or drive bys? There's no answer for gun control now. It would be like locking the barn door after the horses have escaped. There are so many guns on the street now there is no way to clear them. Folks are outraged over school shootings but they don't make up 5% of shooting deaths in the U S. If a thug has no clue who is carrying and who isn't it makes their intended targets a lot riskier.

Example, My mom was an avid fur owner. When I was 23 I took her to down town brockton one fall day to get them out of storage. You have to be buzzed into the store that stores them because of the neighborhood. As I am walking out a group of younger black kids walk by the door. It was too late to not go out so I followed them. As soon as the first one turned around and eyed my arm full of coats I shifted them to my left arm and dramatically unzipped my leather just enough to slip my hand inside. The kids eyes bugged and he turned and started walking away faster. Funny thing was my mother being totally oblivious to what happened. When we got in the car she asked if I had an itch since I reached inside and scratched my stomach
