i don't know that it's useful to agree or disagree at this point as i think either diverts from the real issue: anyone who does not actively reduce the deficit, is increasing it.

Right...and in years that the GOP runs the White House, they actively shoot it up with tax cuts, wars, etc....and it is deemed "acceptable"

In years a Liberal is in the White House, they are told that any deficit gotten from the previous Republican is the END OF THE WORLD AND NOT ACCEPTABLE!

So......even if it goes up, why is the GOP suddenly scared of it?

congress of both sides is to blame. presidents changed, congress stayed the same.
and actually, if there was still a rep pres the deficit would have even been more. (i would explain if anyone cares)

someone saw reps trying to add amendments(which would have added more debt) to the bam spending bills. but someone saw the immature dems not allow those amendments.
someone saw where there was a rep. president(even with a dem congress), all rep. amendments were allowed.

someone also posted 3 months ago the deal would be to raise taxes on over 500k.
