It wasn't so much not giving a shit. They knew they fucked up with the kid so the next season he was gone and keeping it as a comedy they didn't want to bring up a reason. Some people were pissed it was cancelled during break and no ending was given. Not that they had to wrap up any loose ends or anything with some spectacular final episode.

that's the best part about that show I always thought. they could just stop at any given times and even though you would miss the show, it's not like you felt you missed "an ending".
