There's fucking with a guy, and then there's getting him fired, or being able to have a say in it.
He basically "Conan-ed" Howie, minus the humor.
But I don't think Howard has the kind of juice to get Howie fired. He couldn't even get Beth into some kind of AGT meeting near the end of last season, and she was almost completely MIA from anything to do with AGT towards the end.
I think he started out with the juice, and getting NBC to move the show to the east coast proves that he had it, but I think that all evaporated when the ratings started to come in.
I don't think he got Sharon fired, either. He doesn't mind that people think he did, megalomaniac that he is, but I don't think he did.
Maybe Sharon asked for more money to play the good soldier, to lie back and think of England, and to be second banana to the geeky pelican's fag-fest from a kind of "I'll sell my soul, but it'll cost ya!" point of view, but NBC didn't want to double-down on their Howard bet. So instead of paying Sharon, who's already making good coin, even more just to maintain the status quo, maybe they're deciding to bring in a "fresh face" (cheap) and recoup some of the production costs.
A variation of this may be happening with Howie.
So in a roundabout way, you could say he got/is getting them fired, but it wasn't anything like him picking up the phone and saying "get rid of them!", or even him clandestinely pulling strings behind-the-scenes.
Tv is all about the money, and Howard is the biggest liability on AGT's balance sheet. All moves are revolving around this simple fact.
It would be a lot easier to believe Howard was playing a game of retarded thrones with AGT if he had any show biz friends whatsoever who he wanted to help. But Howard doesn't want to help anybody but Howard.
So for who and for what would he be flexing his non-existent muscles for?!?
And the execs at NBC would never just throw him the keys to AGT. That's not reality. These people have clawed their way to the relative top. They are not deaf and they are not blind and they are not stupid. They would have loved to have jettisoned Stern from the show, but they couldn't.
All they're doing now is damage control, biding their time, waiting for the day they can serve the scarecrow his walking papers. They're just praying to God there will still be a show when that day comes.
"I heard you're.............really....................sick" - devoted wife Beth Ostrosky, to her husband, H. Allen Stern

Did Howard really get a raise? How could anyone justify giving someone a raise who probably doubled the production budget, caused at least one major star of the show to leave, damaged the image and value of the show - and most of all failed to do his job. Not only did he not bring in more viewers, his presence on the show caused a 20% drop in the ratings. I know that whoever hired Stern did it because they're Stern fans, but even they have to answer to higher ups. I'd like to know how they're able to talk their way out of something like this.

You would make a fine tv executive...
BTW, for the record, Mandel said he would be happy holding 60% of the audience from The Voice and that's about what he got.
The key will be tonight...Traditionally the audience drops a little on night #2 of these weekly premieres after the curiosity factor of night #1 . If it drops anymore than a marginal amount, stick a fork in this show.

You keep saying that, but it isn't true. Filming on sets/studios/venues are not more expensive in Los Angeles. Shooting on location (i.e. in public areas) is more expensive in LA. That is why most sitcoms that are filmed on set are still filmed in Los Angeles while most TV dramas that are filmed on location are filmed outside of LA.
Filming AGT would probably be cheaper in LA because they don't have to pay for traveling expenses (Howie and Sharon had private jets transport them every week), hotels, local transportation, etc. If it was cheaper to film these reality shows on the East Coast, shows like American Idol and The Voice would be filmed on the East Coast.
You keep on saying they save money filming on the East Coast, but there is absolutely no evidence to back that up. In fact, any evidence that states filming outside of LA is cheaper has nothing to do with the type of filming AGT does.

I gotta say Howard is brilliant this way. He has for years been floating out these mysterious high profile movie and TV projects that he could be getting if he wasn't so busy and people buy this BS.
I have to admit I bought the whole Howard as the Scarecrow in the Batman sequel even though Batman and Robin killed the franchise for nearly a decade and Warner Brothers weren't even planning a sequel, nevermind Howard as the villian.
Howard was at his peak of popularity in the 90s and he couldn't make Private Parts a box office hit. Who would put him in a movie now? He is not a good actor and he doesn't have any box office clout. Unless the Academy Award winner was Cuba Gooding Jr. and it was one of those straight to DVD crap Gooding Jr. does these days, I can't see anyone being interested in Howard for a movie.
