You actually GTFO first. Travel immediately for at least a few weeks. While away, you erase anything and everything that has your name and number attached to it...social media, phone company, etc and you hire at least two attorneys and two money managers, without the other's knowledge so you can see who is trying to fuck you over.

You really should set up the shelter before you even cash the ticket. The first call after finding you won should be to a tax advisor and the next a financial planner.

I would not tell anyone. I figure I could pay off people's mortgages just by writing a check to the account without them knowing. Set up a bunch of trusts and have the trustee tell the people who get the benefit.

Depending on a few factors, paying off someone's mortgage may not benefit them in the long run. A trust, that pays the mortgage might be better since they can still get the tax credit for their mortgage, unless Obama fucks that up. Also some idiots will turn around and sell the paid off house and buy a bigger, more expensive house and then will eventually come asking for another handout

Set up a foundation so you can keep track of what you handed out and use it as a tax write off. Sounds nuts but with that much money, you will need every tax shelter you can get or else Uncle Sam will rape you.

The death tax is the absolute worse. Everything you own you have paid taxes on and when you die they will tax you at a rate of 50%.

You give legal advice here and I am sure IRL, plus I would bet money that you have done many legal things for people, pro bono. In a sense you already are doing what you would love to do, just not on such a grand scale.

True. I would think this is a situation where trust funds, even small ones would be appropriate, along with specific arrangements written into a will.
