I do think Howard is insane. For all the talk of protecting his brand, what we have learned is he is simply lazy and wanted to get the cheerleader in high school. His whole purpose now is to show us he got the cheerleader. Too bad he did not learn like the rest of us, that it is the slower to develop, slightly demure girls in high school who turned into the true beauties.
The only problem is Howard's "cheerleader" is cross-eyed, has a foghorn voice (Howard is losing his hearing so he is immune to this), insanely flailing man hands and an insufferable personality.
