It's clear from Howard's own description of his parents that they're suffering some kind of mental impairment, is Howard starting to show symptoms too? He often says things that make no sense and doesn't remember details that were mentioned (and acknowledged by him) earlier in the same conversation. Recent examples are continuing to insist Richard lives in Manhattan (even though he's been told several times that it's Queens) and repeatedly referring to the band Brandano likes as The White Stripes (when it's actually The Black Keys). Today he criticized Sirius for giving shows to people who were never in radio before and don't know what they're doing (the exact description of his own programming on H101), then contradicted himself again by bragging about giving a show to a novice like Riley Martin. Howard's always been a poor listener and delusional about the scope of his talents and his place in the world but is he actually losing his mind?

Very good observation and good questions. It is difficult to tell if Howard is engaging in schtick by feigning forgetfulness or if he's really losing it. If I had to wager, I'd say that age does play a factor, as does the fact that he's surrounded by "yes men" 24/7. When nobody ever challenges you on ANYTHING then you get mentally lazy. And Howard has probably been in that position at least since his last divorce. On top of that, I think he's just plain disengaged from people whom he considers "beneath" him, so he doesn't really actively listen to anything they say. It's sort of like when your wife is just yapping away and you mutter a few things to fool her into thinking you give a shit what she's talking about...but in Howard's case, I think he does it all the time with almost everyone he meets.

He is so narcissistic that he doesn't listen to what people answer or say and he makes up things in his own mind and in his own world. About the shows on Sirius, he's mad the Sirius paid people millions to do shows that he gets people to do for $100s.

He has lost his mind in the sense that he can't do anything for himself and has yes people around him all the time to convince him how great he thinks he is. I bet he actually deludes himself into thinking the wig is his real hair.

Howard has always smoked pot. At least one big name on the show has confirmed this. If you need further proof what in hell would John Popper have in common with Stern? His love of hidden arsenals? In today's playback SJM flat out accused Howard (show from 97) of smoking pot with john on a few occasions. His whole I smoked in HS then quit, is BS.
