its all really a nonissue, raising taxes on the rich will increase revenues 58billion for 2013 against a budget shortfall of 1trillion for the same period. the dumbass repubs should just let that issue go & raise the godam taxes like the dems want & then they'll have to take on the much bigger more important/relevant issue of cutting spending by ALOT which has to include defense & benefit spending which from a party strategy would put the dems on the defensive but the stoopudass repubs are too shortsighted to see that far ahead & wanna quibbel over the minor tax increase instead & look like total shitheads. everyone in washington is a dumbass

Issues like gay marriage, amnesty, and affirmative action have become incredibly important to liberals like Maher precisely because it brands huge numbers of their fellow citizens as "bigots" for them to hate and feel morally superior to.

so why don't the republicans stop trying to deny citizens their personal rights and remove this as a source of contention?

White liberal guilt is a helluva drug. Maher's nasty screed is nothing more than white elites reassuring each other about how wonderful, tolerate and progressive they are in a lame effort to ingratiate themselves with minorities and hopefully pick up a few votes along the way. Fail.

but Maher's much more viciously one-sided. He was so misogynistic about female GOP types that even a left-wing outfit like NOW had to issue a press release denouncing him. In short, hate makes for poor comedy. I'd compare him to Rush, but that'd be an insult to Rush.

Because we don't spend efficiently. I never said we shouldn't have to pay. Said we shouldn't waste...big difference. Never said anything about not paying for wars or tax rates. I said we shouldn't allow our hard earned money to not be spent properly. You argue things that nobody ever brings up...it's bizarre.

That's why I bring them up because nobody talks about them. The argument that because of waste we should never raise taxes is wrong. What about raising revenue because we just spent a trillion on a war while we enjoy federal income tax rates that are at a 60 year low ? You said "plenty of revenue coming in". Really ? When did we pay the extra trillion in taxes spent on the wars ? You're waiting for a perfect world where the government doesn't waste ? Don't hold your breath.
