That's rampant in NY and has been for many years...I have a friend that was a county correction officer who supposedly hurt his ankle breaking up a fight....Was able to go out on a full disability at over $80k a year, tax free!...Been single his whole life....

i can't believe it's still that bad....i used to live on the north shore of suffolk county and there were plenty of times where we lost power because of all the old-growth tall trees....i remember losing one of my favorite trees in the front of the house (a magnificent cherry blossom) and having to pay $450 just to have it chopped up and removed). i can't imagine what the cost of the cleanup will be....or when it will be restored.
it doesn't look as though there's been much progress...anyone who thinks the power companies favor "the rich" (there are always people willing to demagogue) only has to look at the areas still w/o electricity......oyster bay, manhasset, cove neck, huntington et al. to know it's affected everyone.

I'm on high ground (the shore ares have it the worse) and things improve here everyday. don't let the negative nellies kid you about the reality.

I PERSONALLY have seen more of my neighbors get back their power, trees cut and moved out of traffic and away from lines so the guys can work on them, etc. I see lots of electric trucks all over the neighborhood. They are either going to a job or are parked in mall parking lots waiting for instructions on where to go next.

certain areas at the shores have to be rebuilt from the ground up. literally. That will take time.

I was able to actually get gas today! and there wasn't a line (which is the only reason I went to the gas station). I'm not saying everything is back to "normal" because it isn't.
But don't let anyone tell you that "nothing" is being done because that is bullshit.

I have no idea what is happening in New Jersey, but Long Island and the part of Queens where my family lives is doing much better.
