IMHO Thunderdome was the most drastic departure from the series, my least favorite, but still very entertaining. My least favorite but I like it.

Road Warrior was great, intense, and arguably the "best" of the series.

Mad Max is still my favorite, hands down, because it was innovative, had awesome and (relatively) believable villains and scenario, and it just had a crude grittiness that was fresh and different at the time. I doubt it means anything to anyone else, but I have seen both the overdubbed American soundtrack version, and the original Aussie soundtrack version, and I confess that I like the American/overdub version best, because I think it enhances the comic book like aesthetic of the movie.

I agree it was a departure from the "formula" but I didnt find it entertaining. It was too "commercial" if that makes sense. The addition of a name (Tina) seemed to take away from it. I thought the fact all the players were unknown, or hardly known in the states is what made the first two pretty funkin' great...

I was thinking that the movies were visually great but I didn't really think the plot, dialogue, acting were very good.

No that makes perfect sense to me.... It was an epitome of the Hollywood "let's take something cool and rape it for every penny we can get! " film-making, but at least it had noble beginnings.

FWIW: If I were filthy-lucre, FU, where-de-white-wimmenz rich, one thing I would buy is an Interceptor clone....the last of the V-8's..........

First favorite movie was Road Warrior as a kid so Beyond Thunderdome doesn't measure up but Mad Max is close.
