This is why the Republicans lost

The right wing religious wackos who have taken over the party. In the year 2012 Abortion, Gay Marriage and contraceptive coverage should not be an issue in an election if you don't believe in them fine, but why should your beliefs be pushed on the country?
I am pro life in my beliefs but am pro choice when it comes to others. I really believe that Romney lost because of the social issues that he was made to convert to because the religious right rules the primary's. Most of the exit polls stated that they thought Romney would do a better job for the economy but he got killed on the social issues. He lost my vote when he went along with the religious right on the social issues which was a complete 180 from his beliefs in mass. As long as the Republicans cater to the religious right of the party they have lost my vote and the votes of a lot of others who believe as I do.

This is an actual quote from one of my friends on facebook who is very religious and votes with her religion.
    "
I will always vote for the most pro-life candidate, because God hates the shedding of innocent blood (Prov.6:17). I will always vote for the most pro-Israel candidate, because God blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who don't (Gen.12:3). I will always vote for the most pro-debt reduction candidate, because the borrower is servant to the lender (Prov.22:7). I will always vote for the most pro-work candidate because God says if a man does not work, let him not eat (2 Thes. 3:10). I will always vote for the most pro-marriage candidate, because God is for marriage as defined in Genesis 2:24. I will always vote based as close as I can on God's Word (2 Tim.3:16), knowing that whoever gets elected, God is the one who puts all men in authority (Dan. 2:21)."

your friend is spot on; inform her that God puts evil rulers in authority as judgment for countries that turn away from Him, and she's complete

you are absolutely right, republicans will never win the presidency again until they leave personal choices up to the individual. everybody has different morals, therefore you can't legislate morality. if you don't like abortion or gay marriage, don't marry another guy or kill your baby. it's fiscally conservative to let liberals kill their babies. republicans need to get back to their roots of smaller government and fiscal conservancy.

OK, serious post: If the Neo-Cons/Right-Wing/Conservatives/Whatever-The-Fuck-You-Wanna-Call-Its truly embraced the old "Smaller, less invasive government" adage, and (relatively) conservative economics, I and many others, would be MUCH more likely to support them. Letting capitalist big money suck up every penny in the country, treating workers/employees like plantation slaves while invading their bedroom, library, interwebz, bodies, religious or non-religious leanings, etc. doesn't seem quite in line with the "smaller less invasive government" in my humble opinion. Then we could start talking about illegitimate profiteer wars, lucrative "good-old-boy" contracts, (ie:Halliburton, et al), unbridled greed and avarice.....and a little bit of basic human compassion wouldn't hurt, either.

I'm not saying the Dems are a whole lot better, but at least they kiss you while they're fucking you......

Agreed. Those legitimate rape candidates and vagina probing legislation really fucked things up. I have no idea where that shit even came from.

And Romney going on and on that he's gonna increase military spending. Nobody wanted that.

Roughly 33 to 50% of Republicans are primary Talk-Radio listeners, Right wing talk radio is classified as entertainment, but that group of people take it as the most reliable and factual news out there. That group of people also vote heavily in the primaries. Most normal(non talk radio listening) republicans vote that way for economic issues, maybe on abortion--but most would technically be pro choice if you ask the question "should the governement control who gets an abortion?"

The republicans have screwed themselves on a presidential scale with the talk radio monster they've created--the listeners have a no compromise attitude on subjects like abortion, military policy, and immigration. With the 25 to 40 million talk radio listeners voting in a primary Republicans can't get a candidate through that has a good chance of winning a national election. The best talk radio can do in its current format is keep the house of representatives. Unless the talk radio hosts change their form of entertainment, good luck winning Presidential and battleground senate elections. Unlikely to happen though because a change in talk radio could mean less listeners and less money for people like Rush. Quite the quandry.

wax poetically all you want about the death of a party, but this is nothing that either parties havent been thro dozens of times. the electorate has a short memory & politics is cyclical & all will be forgiven by the next election two years from now...look it up. those of you crying in your beer & those of you raising champagne flutes, its all stupid shit party politics as usual & anyone that reads a definitive mandate into any election, that mandate is short lived & forgotton by the next go around.

I don't know how you can claim this when Mitt Romney was pro choice (before he was against it). He's the definition of a RINO, a politician from Massachusetts and was never the darling of the right wing talking heads til he won the nomination. Nobody was voting for Romney, it was always about anybody but Obama.

There is no crisis within the party, incumbents win. That's all there is to it.

Well, maybe the problem within the party is that they elevate the it's his turn to run for president nominees. Dole, McCain, Romney...maybe it worked in the past with Reagan and Nixon, but it's 0-3 recently.

Being a RINO in the past means very little in the present. Mitt took the positions he needed to for "the base". The crisis within the party is that their platform on issues like immigration specifically is not palatable to the national electorate with its changing demographic. The primary cycle for president has no room for moderates on the republican side. You are right about Republicans giving it to the guy who's turn it is, however all the potential Dark horse republican challangers steered clear of this election.

By the way if you think your past matters to Republicans, remember Reagan was a democrat who campaigned for FDR when he ran. He made a transformation, now he is mythicized by conservatives(not sure if this would fly today though). I stand by my statement of Talk radio creating a primary challenge that is too daunting for nationally electable republican.

I was listening to Rush Limbaugh today and he said the only reason the Republicans lost is that Romney got 3 million fewer votes than McCain did in the previous presidential run. if that's true or not. I thought the republicans were enthusiastic about voting for their magic underwear white knight ?
