Why NOT voting is a good thing

Howard and the crew are wrong again. NOT voting is a vote for not supporting a messed up system. The game is rigged. Its an inteligence test and most are failing miserably."Its called the american dream becasue you have to be asleep to beleive it" - Carlin

""God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. ...
And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure." Thomas Jefferson

Loved the guy, but that's one of the things about Carlin that bugged me. Someone who doesn't vote has no right to complain about the system.

In a messed up system voting between the lesser of two evils is the smartest thing to do.
    Howard is a Vomit.

George Carlin go so unfunny when he got older. Watching the why I don't vote video and he doesn't say one funny thing. One minute in and I tapped out. Being a grouchy old man is not funny, Pat Cooper is funnier than him as an old guy. The Hamptons The Hamptons.

Totes. Throwing support behind something you don't believe in is dripping with integrity.

To be honest, I don't completely believe in abstaining from voting, but only because a ton of people don't vote and the elector-able don't care. They don't need you. I DO very much believe in throwing away your vote. That you took the time to show up, select other candidates, write in someone who hasn't been handed to you, and slide that mofo in-- now you've registered your disapproval, and proved that you're a voter whose vote can be had. If anything even approaching 15% of voters voted outside the two party system, and voted their conscience, someone would start paying attention.

As a much-smarter-than-I friend correctly said, "Every person you convince to vote makes your vote count that much less." Here's his piece on it, complete with bikini shot: http://www.flipcollective.com/2012/1...-paul-shirley/

I vote b/c I figure, why not, doesn't cost me anything ... but I don't take it too seriously anymore. I think I'm gonna start voting 3rd party from now on, f'em all!

You posted in that thread. Dumb ass.

Some are passing the intelligence test. Good to see. Im getting more positive reps than negative. Where are all the sheep lurking?!

And to the fellow who said voting for the lesser of two evils is fine you are a perfect example of why nothing changes. You are supporting something inherently wrong. You have a choice its called not voting and getting involved in your community, making changes and stop looking for corrupt politicians to do it for you. 14 trillion in debt and counting, phony wars, an unhealthy, uneducated and volatile society. The bad guys are taking your country while you sit around and vote thinking that will make any change. Stop being naive.

OK. i'll bite. i used to feel the same way....i voted libertarian for president up until the time clinton ran. his second term, libertarian. i couldn't vote for algore OR george bush. i couldn't vote for kerrey or george bush in 2004. and in 2008 i don't know who i voted for..i was still getting high and i remember making a split second decision (i think it was for obama).

this time however, i am sober and i have grown up but most of all, i had someone i was thrilled to be able to vote for... IMO, mitt romney would have been a wonderful president. i volunteered for romney, i contributed to romney and i voted for romney. i have been called a racist by some people on this board because i think obama is an amateur and a punk....big deal.

i can't criticize you for sticking to your principles but i wish someone could have explained why this time, it was too important.

I'm with OP in spirit, but as a matter of empirics, silent dissent (for lack of a better term) hardly ever works out well for anyone. Casting a dissenting vote for Libertarians or Greens is probably a lot more constructive than not voting at all (in the infinitesimal margin in which your vote matters in any case).

In the end, the winners tend to be the guys who do their best to steer the ship even if it's filled to brim with shit.

if you don't do something, and nobody notices you didn't do it, you have no impact.
