Marijuana legalization victories could be short-lived

(Reuters) - Votes making Colorado and Washington the first U.S. states to legalize marijuana for recreational use could be short-lived victories for pot backers because the federal government will fight them, two former U.S. drug control officials said on Wednesday.

They said the federal government could sue to block parts of the measures or send threatening letters to marijuana shops, followed up by street-level clampdowns similar to those targeting medical marijuana dispensaries the government suspects are fronts for drug traffickers.

"This is a symbolic victory for (legalization) advocates, but it will be short-lived," Kevin Sabet, a former adviser to the Obama administration's drug czar, told reporters.

"They are facing an uphill battle with implementing this, in the face of ... presidential opposition and in the face of federal enforcement opposition," Sabet said.

I'm sure that's accurate, but I hope and more states keep doing it. Maybe it's just me, but the government's obsession with marijuana is the most absurd and unConstitutional insanity of the last century....

just an fyi, there are a small percentage of people who get paranoid when they smoke a sativa dominant genetic.

if you have friends who get high, if you are interested, ask them if they can get any pot from a pure indica strain. if you get some, just take 2 or 3 hits and stop. i laugh at people who smoke a joint and then say that the pot is too strong! too strong . just smoke less duh.

with an indica, there is a good chance you will get a lovely high and not be paranoid. unless you are in the very very small percent of mutants who just don't mix well with thc.

I'm pretty ignorant of the science there, but I know some schmoke makes me paranoid, some makes me sleepy, or energetic, mellow, zombified, giggly, etc. Unfortunately I can't be picky where I live, but man when I can get the non-paranoid happy-weed, life is good...

one of the joys of growing is knowing exactly what kind of high i'll get. i usually grow 4 different genetics at a time and switch off every couple of days. variety is the spice of life.

the gubment is perfectly fine with me on pills that have 453 possible side effects, but pot is bad.
