I live in Md very close to DC, but my neighborhood is great , quiet, never see neighbors unless you want to. We have small lake home ion VA/NC border which is very redneck and small beach cottage near Wilmington NC about 40 yards from the beach. It is nerve wracking every time there is a storm, but it's great while it lasts. Plan to ditch MD home when housing market picks up and live in other 2.

florida DOES have hurricanes but property taxes are low and there's no income tax. we have beautiful weather 9 mos of the year and have beautiful beaches and palm trees.
you can have a great standard of living here and it'[s a good time to buy as the housing market is still low but is on the upswing.

other great things about my part of florida...we have amazing NYC caliber restaurants, the miami basel art fair (one of the most prestigious in the world) museums, concerts and a great art/music scene. if you don't need posh there are areas where you can buy adorable houses with red tile roofs for less than 200,000 (but you have to beware of certain neighborhoods some are like haiti) and are adjacent to million dollar+ homes.

please don't do that. i fucking hate when people in the "congested" areas move into the rural areas. i live in southern jersey. and it's great... lots of farmland and not a mall for at least a 1/2 hour away. but guess what happens? then the people who want to get out of the "congested" areas come live in the "rural" areas and demand more convenience. then the once "rural" nice peaceful area turns into another fucking high-traffic suburb and kick the farmers and cows out just so everyone can have a mcmansion and starbucks every mile. fuck that shit. stay where you are and leave my utopia alone.

most places will have storms and no electricity (unless you're willing to spend the really big bucks). it's kind of normal. what you will get by moving out of NJ is the benefits and prestige of not being in NJ. That's a pretty big improvement, unless you move to Philly or Pittsburgh.

I would say the best place is Upstate NY near Ithaca. It's the middle of nowhere but they have Cornell, so there's tons of cool restaurants & shops, plus there's a huge lake and a ton of waterfalls. I'm planning to get the fuck out of AZ and move back there.

Man I wanna live there so bad. The 8 months I spent there made me fall in love with that place. The Netherlands is cool and all, but it ain't Florida.

TX on the ocean. Great place to live even if whites are a minority.

I was in the western part. I have friends there who live in really nice house with a lot of land around them and I couldn't believe what they paid for it. Nice, quiet neighborhoods, too. The music scene was incredible, there were plenty of fun bars and restaurants around, the beaches were nothing short of gorgeous and most of the folks there were really nice and laid back.

I miss it so much that it depresses me sometimes. It's just agonizing every day for me waking up in a place that is cramped with people and that has shitty weather most of the time. I also hate the fact that there isn't any nature around where I can find some peace and quiet. So many goddamn people everywhere. I'm fucking sick of it. And don't get me started on the absolutely insane taxes on everything, especially on owning and driving a car.
