To be fair, the Reps will always keep a few "mavericks" around, to show how diverse and inclusive they are.....But you're right about them as a voting block, they will put away differences in religion or political leanings or even the well-being of their own constituents and country, in order to "win", at any cost.....Dems seem to have much more infighting.
