I like Richard Simmons; like others have said, he seems to actually want to help people and seems like a genuinely nice, unselfish guy. He used to have a show on Sirius and I tuned in occasionally...he wasn't selling or promoting anything...he was just helping morbidly obese people. One thing was really clear from the show...Richard had a LOT of (off-air) daily personal contact with countless people with dire medical conditions related to obesity. He really does seem to be living a life committed to helping these people. He told Howard that he made a mint before he even became famous (I think in real estate with his mother)...so money probably not been an issue with the work he does.

It is sad that he's in the closet, but at 64 years old, he's from a generation that was fairly hostile to queers. I suspect he hides his sexuality because it might diminish his ability to focus attention on the people he tries to help.

He might be a weirdo, but seems like the good-kind of weirdo. Live and let live.
