She doesn't have breast cancer... but she cut off both breasts because she found out she was genetically predisposed - ie. she has a gene that merely increases the risk of getting breast cancer.
Speaking to Hello! Magazine, she said: 'As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought: "The odds are not in my favour".
'I've had cancer before and I didn't want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off, and had a double mastectomy.'
Sharon then added: 'The surgery was 13 hours in total the recovery was definitely not pleasant. They reconstructed my breasts at the same time: they're very small now. I'm happy with them but I wasn't that concerned with how they would look I wanted to be cancer-free.'
'You can't buy your youth back, no matter how much money you've got,' Sharon added. 'I won't be going under the knife again.'

i knew a woman who had the preventive mastectomy because of a genetic disposition to breast cancer....i don't really understand what it does because i would imagine the dna and cells are still in the body.
