Perhaps the response was not good, I've heard varying reports and don't trust most of them, as it seems to depend on one's politics. I fail to see, however, how the federal government could be held responsible for people to ignore repeated warnings and choose to sit in below-sea-level homes for days before a storm actually hits, then drowning as a result. You could have rolled a wheelchair out of the danger area. Simply walking over to the French quarter would have done the trick. I wasn't aware all the dead were quadraplegics or blind people with no phones, relatives, or ability to summon a ride out of the area.

And at some point you have to ask, why are they criticizing the government that is four levels up, but not the state, parish, or city governments? The answer that comes to mind is political bias.

This sort of chauvanistic bias is why we can't solve problems. "Them = evil/incompetent , Us = perfect". For this reason, this type of comment is not to be taken seriously.

This time FEMA was on the ground before the disaster and even Gov. Christie of NJ has applauded the fast response.

President Clinton's political guru, Dick Morris, who I think suffers from wishful thinking at times, made a good point in a recent column. There was about a 5 day warning of the storm hitting the east coast. Where were the stockpiles of food, gas, and other supplies? Is he mistaken that there were few or none?

We have plenty of stockpiles of food, gas and other supplies: its called New Jersey (especially the gas). as for water, we have 2 tunnels that bring water down from NYS by gravity feed (no electricity required) sufficient to allow 8 million people to power wash their driveways every day if they wanted to.

You try distributing these things when you have a rushing river on every street. The reason we had a slight issue with the flooding was that the water level in the rivers was higher than the city streets. the storm drains empty into the rivers (we're an island) but if the water level in the rivers is higher than the drains the water doesn't flow into the rivers. it backs up. this has happened exactly 1 time in almost 100 years.

sandy was a tropical storm, notta hurricane & fema has learned alot from katrina. if you think bush or obama has or had anything to do with the planning & execution of either disasters releif/cleanup you have some mighty big rocks in your head. thats what femas for & the cheif executive has no clue as to the daily planning or operations as he shouldn't. but as cheif executive, he's the guy that will take the fall when people dont get relief in the time frame they want. you wait, shit will be hitting the fan from many of those unhappy noo yawkas. & explain to me how bushyboy killed people during katrina buckwheat. fuckin simpleton party idiots.

when Sandy hit the northeast it hit about 200 miles south of NYC and was barely a Cat 1 hurricane. when the winds touched NYC (the "hurricane" never touched NYC) they were about 45mph which isn't even a hurricane anymore. and borders on a tropical depression. NY got hit with 14 foot high tides. NYC is generally about 7 feet above sea level, but this didn't really help this time. All the water falling on the city had no place to go since 14' is above the storm drains, so the rainwater backed up and eventually found the tunnels which are designed to be beneath the riverbed. made great videos though.

FEMA is apparently fucking up with the assistance: i hear reports that they are being very selective in the areas they assist currently. Queens and Staten Island are a focus, while the North Jersey coast is being largely ignored.
