I got on a big 50's and earlier music kick after playing the first Bioshock game.
Frank was really startin to shake it up in the 50s - preparing for all the great songs he put out in the 60s
Ok, vatos. I need help with a deep cut, and you're just the mofos who might be able to help. Senator and spazz, I'm looking your way. The song I'm thinking of sounds like its from the mid 50s, doo wop, probably a black group. I always associate it with stuff like the original Aiko Aiko and Little Richard's Joy in My Heart. Just to set the mood.
Anyway, this is my best approximation of it (even though I admit that I feel silly transcribing this):
(moaned softly): oohhh children (falsetto response): oooh chill eeees. Ooohh children (oohh chilles)
give to me, whaddya give, whaddya get?
When. I call your name. Things never ever be the same. When. I call your name. Give to me whaddya give whaddy get?
That's all I can remember without sounding like a total dork. Anybody know what song this is? TIA
just saw this... I don't know it but doo wop is not my particular specialty. I enjoy it but I know know it the way I know obscure garage rock bands.
What I'll do is show your post to my wife in the a.m. -she's the Doo-Wop specialist around here... she loves Doo Wop and Blues and R&B so she might know. Or in a month or two it'll come to both of us when we're playing records.
How that shit usually works out anyway.
one more thing- is this piano or guitar based? Any kind recognizable instrumental leads? Is there a sax break? All guys or are there girls in the band, too?
If you've seen the record before can you describe the color of the label?
thanks for trying - I really appreciate it. It was on a mix tape a friend of mine had in college over 25 years ago and I've never thought to search for it until now.
AFAIK, it's almost totally a capella. So I'd say piano based. Whatever it is, I'd put it on the same plane as Itty Bitty Pretty One and Don'cha Just Know It, only slower and more gospelly.
