What I thought it was (when i voted)

I think SFN or some other site i was at , A few years back you could vote on a post if you liked it , And a rating would show in the post box ...

How about a thank you hack? Meaning you can say thanks to a poster and all the people that said thanks would show up under the post? I can do that fairly easily.

Lets say I start a new thread and the people who responds to the thread are the comments. If you like that person's reply you can give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. If that doesn't sound good then how about "like" counter, something like that. Basically what i'm trying to say is if you like someone's response besides quoting and complimenting them you can press a button and give them a like or a thumbs up.
I know the movieplex site has a feature where you can "thank" a response. The person would post a link to a movie and there was a button next to the post where you could thank them. It would show who pressed it.

I'm not talking about Facebook, sometimes I come across a comment where I'm bust out laughing or wanting to quote because it was so good and I always wanted to give them a thumbs up or press a button next the comment and press Like.
If it sounds too complicated, we don't have to do this. It was something I thought was cool hehe
