i'm seriously in the country now.

i used to run from home and do that run. It's about .8 miles to where i park. I drive there to avoid the steep hill on the way back home, and to make the run shorter, since all my hard work has gone away and i feel like I am starting all over again.

but yesterday i did my first hilly run, on my first hilly route out here. (it's in the other direction so i avoid that brutal hill)

This is the summer of 2011 when I was studying abroad in Siena, Italy for a month and a half. I ran 4-5 times a week over there and lost 20 pounds for the time I was there. This place was awesome to run in and a challenge because the whole city is basically comprised of hills. Best time to run there was at night, and it was pretty safe to run at 10 pm because that is the time that Italians usually have dinner over there. From the location in the bottom photo, i had to walk to school from this point to where the tall tower is everyday..

I'm reading mrs! Italy is beautiful.. Expensive but worth it. I was studying Italian and figured I'd take the opportunity to actually use the language over there rather than learn it and not use it. Plus it benefits that I speak Spanish. Language is almost similar.
Few things if you go. Watch out if they use the word stronzo or cazzo it's similar to bitch and fuck. They tend to use it to foreigners who they think don't speak Italian especially baristas. Not all are like that tho.. there are some friendly ones.When dealing with money even if you extend your hand. They will always put the money on the counter( it's a culture thing so don't take offense). Never accept a rose from the street people even if they say gratis (free).. Because they will follow you and ask for money.
I hope you get the opportunity. Definitely worth it.

Did you attend the Palio di Siena?

I was there when the Goose (oca) contrada won. In this race there was 2 horses that hit the barrier but I forgot which contrada horse had their jock flying. Crazy event... I'd only do this once tho... From being in the center I was pushed and people were getting angry. I mean it was a great experience.. but.. never again... when they were selecting the horses days prior. a fist fight occurred between the members of the Tower contrada and the Goose contrada.. Pretty fun to watch a brawl almost escalate. lol. Asked a cabbie from Florence what he thought of this event and the Sienese. He just said they're crazy.
