when christians get a real taste of why the separation of church and state is importa

When I Voted for State Funds to go to Religious "Schools, I Didn’t Mean Muslim Ones" - Rep. Valarie Hodges(R)

I love those moments of, "Wait! This isn't the end of the stick I'm used to! Injustice!". It exposes, in all its glory, the true objective of the christian right.

People like Hodges are so narrow minded and centered in their own worldview that they vote a bill without understanding how it could be applied to anybodys else interests.
This should teach her her that church and state are to keep separated. But who I am fooling. She will probably learn nothing from it...

yes, that private letter from Jefferson to the Marbury Baptist Church has long been held the basis for the phrase "separation of church and state"

Jefferson reassured the baptists that if the methodists are elected to office, they won't be able to change the baptismal laws.

yup, private letter, not in the constitution

conservatives are attempting to conserve what is in the Constitution

and "separation of church and state" is not in the Constitution, nor would the current take on "separation" be tolerated by our founding fathers

it's just simply time to change the name of the country so that we don't mislead anyone anymore

Funny stuff. Her actual quotes are far more damning than your summary too.

The original pledge of allegiance didn't have in god we trust in it until 1954. The country got along just fine without it.

Big pet peeve with me -- they DESTROYED the pledge, literally. The line was "one nation, indivisible"! The entire point of a united nation was trashed to appease the McCarthy freaks.

Hawgshit....this kind of insane drivel is why don't even post in this forum any more. "Conservatives" are attempting to "conserve" the PARTS of the Constitution and Bill Of Rights that they like, and in their own interpretation, and the rest is a hindrance to them, so they try to create ways to get around it. And specifically, I'm referring to so-called "Cristian Conservatives"...

the establishment clause does not contain "separation of church and state", nor was it intended to stop the government from advocating christianity, which they did vociferously.

to the point where the bible was a mandatory textbook

I suggest you take this up with the Supreme Court.

It's about as debatable as the reality of global climate change, not that you and your type "believe" in that either.

if you're sober now, some examples would be nice.

abortion - not in the constitution
gun ownership - protected in the 2nd amendment
freedom to practice religion - protected in the 1st amendment
enumerated powers - restricts federal government from expanding its power base
state's rights - in the constitution
gay marriage - not in the constitution

income tax - not in the constitution

what conservative idea are you referring to, or are you just talking out of your ass?
