The February 2001 news article's reference to Stern talking up Kylie Bax at the Playboy Mansion is interesting.

I remember Stern talking about Bax on the air a few times, first favorably and then later unfavorably. It was my impression on the later occasion that Stern had changed his mind about Bax because she'd rejected his advances.

Hmmm, they described Beth's apartment as a "tony five-story townhouse". A bit different from Howard's story that she was living in a dump with the celing caving in.

Because practically every luxury building in Manhattan is within a block (or less) of pre-War brownstones. Some of them have also already been renovated into high-rent buildings but others are still rent-controlled. Many of the individual units in those buildings are still relative shitholes whose rent can't be raised to market rates as long as the long-term tenants live there and they're being illegally sublet at a tremendous profit by absentee tenants or their beneficiaries.
