Thread: Voter Fraud

Despite many instances of electoral fraud internationally, in the U.S. a major study by the Justice Department between 2002 and 2007[2]showed of the 300 million votes cast in that period, federal prosecutors convicted only 86 people for voter fraud – and of those few cases, most involved persons who were simply unaware of their ineligibility. This rarity of electoral fraud in the U.S. follows from its inherent illegality. Harsh penalties aimed at deterring voter fraud make it likely that individuals who might perpetrate the fraud correctly fear that they will be discovered by election officials carefully examining voter identification.

After a five-year hunt for voter fraud, the Bush administration's Justice Department came up with little widespread fraud, finding mostly cases of people mistakenly filling out voter registration forms or voting when they didn't know they were ineligible, The New York Times reported in 2007. But none of the cases involved a person voting as someone else.

I went to register to vote today as a new resident of the great state of Virginia and they didn't even ask me what party? There wasn't even a spot for it on the form. Every state is different and it shouldn't be!

Are you trying to say the government goes out of its way to underreport and under investigate voter fraud?

absolutely; when your power is derived from the votes of the people, the people have to be convinced that their votes matter.

To me a statement like that is unconvincing. Frankly, if anyone had the motive to find widespread voter fraud, it was the bush justice department. You seem a bit paranoid.

there's a whole bunch of voting felons, a whole bunch of dead people voting, and a whole bunch of missing military ballots in every nationwide election

not sure how it's paranoid when you walk a notebook of almost 600 fraudulent voters into the DA's office and their comment is "we don't have the manpower to look into this".

democracy is four wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. enjoy

i don't know, maybe we're not speaking the same language. the person who would investigate and press charges is Steve Cooley, and he said he did not have the resources to do so. instead, the secretary of state on behalf of the county registrar sent out postcards to all the fraudulent voters warning them not to do it again.

Youre right, never has an official investigation been opened after a media report spotlighted a problem.

nobody gave a shit, nobody went to jail. only some postcards got sent out to warn people not to do it again.
